Territory

SDEVM Territory

The SDEVM’s mission is to help you settle your business in downtown Montreal.

Montreal’s business core offers a promising environment for start-up businesses working through their development processes. A highly dynamic and active place, downtown Montreal is indeed the heart of Montreal’s economic activity.

Entrepreneurs who establish their businesses downtown give themselves the advantage of apowerful market as they have direct access to clients – local, provincial, national and international.

The Borough of Ville-Marie accounts for 30% of the business being established in Montreal, which demonstrates the strength of the downtown area as the preferred location for entrepreneurs doing business in Montreal.

Downtown Montreal also offers a major labour pool, which has a positive impact on the number of jobs created and on long-term employment. The Borough of Ville-Marie alone accounts for 43% of Montreal jobs and has seen a significant growth in job creation since 1996 (more than 62% over four years).

Downtown Montreal is conducive to the emergence of large businesses and its vitality is also greatly due to the many small businesses that choose to settle in Ville-Marie. In fact, 27% of businesses located downtown have between one and 49 employees.

Thus, the downtown core is the focal point of economic activity in Montreal.  Being the anchor for the city’s sustainable and profitable business development, the city centre is where vital trade, contacts and exchanges take place, helping to create employment, entrepreneurial solidarity and economic prosperity.
